Bacterial Cell wall
Composition:
1.Peptidoglycan(Provides tensile strengeth)
90% in gm(+) and 5-20% in gm(-)
2.Special Component
Gm(+).........Techeic acid,Polysaccharide
Gm(-)...........lipoprotein,Outer membrabne/lipopolysaccharide
Function:
1.Maintain Bacterial Shape
2.Protect internal envirnment
3. Helps in cell division
Peptidoglycan:
Composed of Glycan(sugar) and side chain peptide. Which are linked by
transpeptidase.
some extra matter:
Bacteria has three shape
1......................Cocci(sphere)
2.....................Bacilli(Rod)
3....................Spirochetes(spiral)
Cocci arranged in three pattern
1. ................pairs(diplococci)
2.................Chain(Streptococcus)
3.................Cluster(Staphylococcus)
Size of bacteria ranges from 1-----4 micrometer
Mycoplasma the smallest bacteria sizes .2micrometer.
All bacteria have cell wall of peptidoglycan except mycoplasma
which is surronding by membrabne.
Gm(-) bacteria has thin outer membrane where as gm(+)
do not have.
Outer membrane of gm(-) bacteria contains(LPS) the main cause of septic shock.
